VOTD: The Lumineers + Langhorne Slim - ‘I Held Her In My Arms’ (Violent Femmes Cover)

What better to do before a gig than get everyone together and jam out? Shot before a recent UK show, alt-folk/country Langhorne Slim and his band The Law and the indie-Americana act that has taken the world by storm and by ‘hey,’s and ‘ho’s, The Lumineers, put a their twangy spin on  “I Held Her In My Arms” by The Violent Femmes. Testing the acoustics up in the balcony, their take on the 1986 song features multiple guitars, multiple drums, a banjo, and an upright bass. If that sounds like a foot-stompin’ good time, it sure is—see for yourself!

Because you couldn’t get enough of one date of Punch Brothers OR two dates of Thievery Corporation (on sale now), we have added more shows (and added more reasons that 2013 will kick some serious ass)!
Then we topped it off with THE LUMINEERS! One of the biggest bands to explode in 2013, the powerful Denver trio delivering heartfelt folk to the masses (seriously, have you heard “Ho, Hey”?) come to D.C. at the end of January to blow us away in the beautiful D.A.R. Constitution Hall.

VOTD: The Lumineers – ‘The Dead Sea’ taking a page out of Edward Sharpe’s guide to success, to the untrained eye, these guys may just seem like another band of bearded white people playing folk instruments, but this track is poised to be a staple of your Summer playlist. Their sound packs major punch and is accompanied by some powerful lyrics sure to inspire. The fact that the video for this track was shot in one take also gives us that warm, fuzzy, homegrown feeling we all adore.
