The 9:30 Club

Hot Chip provided a completely electrifying performance on a hot Spring night at the club. Lucky for you, our house photographer Dustin Whitlow was there to capture it. Check out our photo set on our Facebook page!

Plan to Rock! Feat. Delta Rae & Q-Tip Planned Parenthood and Rock The Vote have teamed up for your inauguration entertainment this weekend! Not only do you get the barn burning quality of Delta Rae (who just played an amazing sold out show) you also get the suave hip hop of Q-Tip to help you celebrate. Hell yes.
Plan to Rock! DJ Lil’e’s Inaugural Eve Dance Party You didn’t think the party was over did you? Dance into the evening with grooves set by everyone’s favorite (of vs. dance party fame), ms. Lil’e herself.
BLOWOFF Bob Mould. Richard Morel. Men. Sweat. Dance. Oh. Yes.
Crash Boom Bang The NOVA boys are back and ready to party! Don’t call them a boy band - these guys play and write their own brand of pump-up power pop to get you moving!
Bad Religion These legends of the punk scene are a presence all their own, but add support from Against Me! and Polar Bear Club, now you have a heavy night of music, my friends.
Hot Chip DANCE PARTY! Their latest album, In Our Heads, was released to huge critical acclaim, their Merriweather performance last season slayed, and we couldn’t be more ready to get sweaty to their tunes in the club setting.
Lianne La Havas This girl is a stone cold stunner. Her voice soars, the sentiment is passionate and beautiful. There is no doubt this live performance will grab hold of your heart, and quite possibly have you grabbing some kleenex.
Galactic New Orleans funk, who can really get enough? We certainly can’t, and that’s why Galactic has become a staple of our schedule each year. This show was so very sold out last time when they came, so get on these tickets early and prepare to get down.
The Postelles & Arkells (@ U Hall) After various amazing slots supporting bands at 9:30 club, these two shining beacons of pop-rock fusion are ready for a one-two hit co-headlining at U Street Music Hall. Get those clapping hands, dancing shoes, and smiling faces ready for an incredibly fun night presented by 9:30 Club!

ALBUM REVIEW: Hot Chip - In Our Heads
2010’s One Life Stand, showed a more sensitive Hot Chip. This year, the London electro-disco rockers serve up an upbeat, colorful album of summertime music. The playfulness and exuberance of In Our Heads, show just how much they love making dancefloor-ready tunes.
The album opens with, ‘Motion Sickness,’ a pulsing, driving piece of synth-laden grandeur. The beat only goes on from there through tracks that would carve up 80s dancefloor, like ‘Night and Day‘ which bumps with ferocity. An especially poignant moment comes in ‘Look at Where We Are.’ It is a beautifully written song about rekindled love that grooves to a slower tempo, providing a well-timed breather. This sentimental nature shows a balance has been achieved between the themes of this album and One Life Stand.
For being one of this summers most anticipated albums, In Our Heads certainly delivers. Though it can be a little lengthy for an album of 80s-inspired disco (two of the songs are over seven minutes long), it plays as a extensive musical celebration.
