PREVIEW: New Order w/ Holy Ghost! @ Merriweather
Legendary new wave group New Order’s July 28 pitstop at Merriweather cannot come soon enough. They tour on their January release Lost Sirens, eight songs left off of their pre-hiatus Waiting For The Siren’s Call (2005). For those of you who remain out of the loop (but for real, where have you been?), New Order formed upon the tragic suicide of post-punk band Joy Division’s Ian Curtis. The remaining members banded together, and while certainly overshadowed in their earlier years by the legacy of Ian Curtis, managed to break out of that mold with their innovative brand of dance music. These prolific artists redefined what we know today as indie music, influencing such groups as the Killers and the Chemical Brothers. If you still don’t believe me, take a listen to their version of Joy Division’s Ceremony, which I’ll wager is better than the original. If it doesn’t bring tears to your eyes, then you might be either a robot or a sociopath.
They’ll be supported by Holy Ghost!, a 9:30 dance favorite. For those of you still reeling from the unexpected cancellation of Morrissey at D.A.R. Constitution Hall, this is a great chance to get your eighties pop fix. Hope to see you there!
