INTERVIEW: The Dunwells
We got a chance to catch up with Joe, one of the Dunwell brothers that makes up the quintet of The Dunwells, the Leeds, England based group that is coming to U Street Music Hall on February 20th!
[9:30]  This is such a family affair, with a set of both brothers and cousins. How does that affect the dynamic of the group?
JD: People always ask this, but we all tend to get along. We’re all mates and have a lot of fun together on tour.
[9:30]  Blind Sighted Faith definitely combines a lot of different genres (blues, rock, folk, etc.), which can really be appealing to anyone. How would you describe the sound?
JD:  It’s a collection of songs that we’ve all kind of played individually. But some developed together over that time. We all have different influences. Overall, I’m just so happy with the album. It has such an eclectic feel to it, which I think is always great.
[9:30]  Speaking of Blind Sighted Faith, what is your favorite song from the album to perform at shows?
JD:  It differs from time to time. It depends on the tour. We’re adding new songs, so that changes it up a bit. We’ve been opening with ‘Blind Sighted Faith’ lately and that one is really close to my heart.
[9:30] People compare you guys to Mumford & Sons and other rootsy Americana groups. Who are your main influences?

JD:  For me personally, Radiohead and Damien Rice are two that stand out…. any music that’s good music, honestly. But with the comparisons, we do love Mumford & Sons though, they’re a great group and we have a lot of respect for them.
[9:30] What artist/group has been on heavy rotation on your iPod while on tour?
JD:  Foy Vance comes up a lot, he’s incredible. I listen to many different groups though.
[9:30] What place in America has been the most fun to visit? Are you missing England?
JD:  I’m not missing England just yet. We are very much looking forward to the shows in Colorado. We really just love America and are happy to be here.
[9:30] Well, we’re excited to have you at U Hall on the 20th!
JD: Great, us too, see you at the show!
